Emergency Response

Emergency Response

A group of students sit at desks in a classroom, focused on their work.In case of a school emergency, please be aware that every school in the Nampa School District has an Emergency Response Plan, which has been developed meticulously and covers a wide range of emergency situations. These plans were developed in collaboration with the Nampa Police Department, Canyon County Emergency Management, and other first responders. To help us respond effectively in such situations, your cooperation is essential if there is an emergency at your child's school.

If an emergency occurs, please assist us by taking the following actions:

    • Refrain from calling or visiting the school. During an emergency, on-site staff are focused solely on moving everyone to a secure location. Visiting the site can cause unnecessary traffic, making it difficult for emergency vehicles to arrive quickly. Moreover, you could put yourself or others in danger.
    • If your student contacts you via phone or text, help them remain calm. Remind your student that school staff are well-equipped to handle emergency situations and will work to keep everyone safe.

Please be aware that we will keep parents/guardians informed about reuniting them with their child. However, the reunification site may not be at the school.

    • In the event of an emergency, an Urgent Alert will be sent to parents/guardians via ParentSquare as a text, voice call, and email to ensure delivery of message. Nampa School District uses ParentSquare for official communication between schools, teachers, and families. ParentSquare allows for text, email, push notifications, and phone calls.
    • To ensure delivery of messaging, please make sure your emergency contact information, including all cell phone numbers, is always up to date at your child’s school and in PowerSchool. If you do need to update your information, please contact your child's school.
    • The Nampa School District will share credible, accurate, and useful information with the public through official platforms and our website when appropriate. We aim to provide this information as soon as possible in the event of an emergency.
    • Please note that information from sources other than the school administrator(s) or Nampa School District may not be accurate. Our posts will be updated as necessary to ensure that the information we provide is up to date.
    • We will also provide updates to local news media, but please be aware that emergency situations can change rapidly. Multiple agencies are often involved, and communication is typically coordinated through the "lead agency," which may cause a delay in notification.
  • The following terms are used by the Nampa School District:

    • Reverse Evacuation: Used when there is a potential threat from outside, and students are secured inside the building if they are outside.
    • Hall Check: Used to quickly return students to their classrooms. All exterior and interior doors are locked, and students continue with classroom activities.
    • Lockdown: Used when there is a perceived danger inside the building. Hallways are cleared of students and school staff. Doors and windows are locked and closed, all people hide from view and are to remain quiet.
    • Evacuation: Used to move students and staff out of the building to a pre-designated safe location.
    • Reunification Site: An alternative location, other than the school, where school administrators will check out students to the child's parent or guardian. Students will only be released to authorized parents or guardians with proper identification, such as a driver's license or state identification.
    • Shelter-in-place: Exterior doors are locked, but normal activities continue inside the building. This is used during severe weather or other environmental threats, such as air contamination due to a local fire, to keep people safe while remaining indoors.

If you see or hear anything that may impact a school or school program, please report it immediately. All Nampa School District staff members, parents, students, and community members are encouraged to speak up and report suspicious activity by calling 911 or the Nampa Police Department at (208) 465-2257.

Please discuss these matters with your family to plan ahead and alleviate concerns during emergencies.
