Advanced Opportunities

Idaho's Advanced Opportunities program provides public school students in grades 7 through 12 with an allocation of $4,625 to customize their education. These funds cover dual credit courses, overload classes, certification or AP exams, and workforce training to help students earn college credits or career credentials.

Opportunity Description Allowance
Overload A course taken for high school credit, outside the regular school day. The course is provided by an Idaho certified instructor and a properly accredited organization. E.G. Idaho Digital Learning Alliance  Up to $225
Dual Credit A college course that earns both high school and college credit. Up to $75 per credit
Exams/Certifications Approved industry recognized certifications.
College placement exams.
College credit earning exams.		 Up to the full cost
Workforce Training Regionally approved courses, specifically aligned to industry at Idaho technical colleges. E.g. Apprenticeships Up to $4,625
Early Graduation Scholarship A scholarship for graduating at least one year early to be used at Idaho public colleges.  Estimated at $2,500
Course Challenges A mechanism for students to show prior learning to earn credit. No cost

In parntership with Nampa School District, Phillips Driving School offers courses specifically for Nampa School District students. 

 

The Nampa School District Driver's Education course is currently being provided as an online course.  (The course does not include any Zoom calls.)  The course is self lead and available 24 hours per day, seven days a week during the course dates.  

Please note: This Nampa Driver's Education Program is offered at a reduced rate because the Idaho State Department of Education supplements the cost.

Instructions

 

  1. Go to the office to ask for a V.O.C (Verification of Compliance). This is a form for the DMV that states that you are a Nampa School District student and attend school regularly. If you do not attend regularly, you will be required to complete two weeks of perfect attendance (no absences or tardiness)  
  2.  Go to the DMV to get the permit – bring the following:  
    1. VOC  
    2.  Social Security Card  
    3. Birth certificate (photocopy not accepted)  
    4. Photo (School ID Card or State ID Card)  
    5. Identification of parents - or guardianship documents if necessary.  
  3.  Register at phillipsdriving.org/register-page/nampa-courses - You cannot register without a permit from the DMV. Follow the instructions on their website.  
  4. Create an account or log in to advancedops.sde.idaho.gov. This MUST be a student account created by students. Accounts created with parent emails will be denied. If you are creating an account, be sure to verify your email.  
    1. Once your account is verified and approved, select "Request Funds" on the left side. If you don’t see this as an option anywhere, you didn't verify your account, or it hasn't been approved. Contact your college and career advisor if you've verified your account and still don't see the request option.  
    2. Once you have selected "Request Funds", select the following:  
      1.  County: CANYON  
      2. School year: 2026-2027  
      3. District: Nampa School District  
      4. School
      5. Grade level: Select your grade level  
      6. Term: Fall, Spring or Summer  
      7.  Course type: Overload  
      8. Course Provider: District  
      9. Course name: Drivers Ed 
      10. The rest will be automated for you.
    3. Lastly, make sure you have anAdvanced Opportunities Participation Form on file. 
  • College of Western Idaho

    Students can take courses on campus through College of Western Idaho or directly through the college. Particularly motivated students can participate in OtterBound to complete all their general education requirements for college.

  • Boise State University

    Students can take courses on NSD campuses through Boise State. Particularly motivated students can participate in Bronco Navigate to complete all their general education requirements for college.

  • Northwest Nazarene University

    Students can take courses on NSD campuses through Northwest Nazarene University.

  • College of Southern Idaho

    Students can take courses on NSD campuses through the College of Southern Idaho.
