Skyview High Teams Up with Kids for Iron Chef

Culinary arts students from Nampa High Schools and YEAH! participants teamed up for an Iron Chef competition Oct. 18 at Skyview High School. Judges included Rick Hogaboam, Nampa City Council member, and Kristen Pudlow, assistant to Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling.

The Youth Engaged in Activities for Health (YEAH!) is a clinically-based children’s program that teaches kids about healthy eating, physical activity and positive behavior changes.

Iron Chef judges were Nampa City Council Member Rick Hogaboam; Kristin Pudlow, executive assistant to Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling; Allison Hinshaw of Columbia High School, and Marla Marosvari of Nampa High School.

At the event, groups of three to four children were paired with a Skyview Junior Chef.  Each group received ingredients to prepare a meal and a dessert for a family of four.

“The night’s Iron Chef was a fabulous success,” said Danielle Nebeker, a St. Luke’s Children’s Specialty Center outpatient registered dietitian. “The kids had a blast and learned so much from the Junior Chefs at Skyview. The judges were amazing and really made the kids feel special.

“There was dinner available for everyone, and the families got to walk through and see what their kids were working on,” she said.

The next YEAH! Nampa Iron Chef event is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 7 at Skyview High School, 1303 E. Greenhurst Road in Nampa.
