Heather Lewis Appointed Zone 5 Trustee

Heather Lewis was named the newest Nampa School District board member at the June 12, 2018, board meeting. Trustees interviewed finalists Lewis, Sarah Holloway and JessicaQuiñonez before making their selection to fill the Zone 5 seat vacated by Mike Fuller.

A physician assistant and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Heather will be sworn in at the July 10 regular board meeting. Her term will expire in December 2021.

Lewis originally ran for the Zone 5 seat in the May 2017 election. Although her bid was unsuccessful, she went on to serve on the hiring committee for the district’s superintendent and is serving a 5-year term on the Preston Capell educational loan committee. She also was part of the Nampa Wastewater Advisory Group and was elected vice president of the Lake Ridge Elementary PTA.

In her application, she stated that the Board’s role is to ensure a balanced budget and help make the best decisions on behalf of students, leading to improved trust. “With public trust comes greater buy in from everyone involved in making the Nampa School District the best in Idaho,” she wrote. “That mutual respect is what sets the tone for a positive culture throughout our district and may lead to improved teacher recruitment and retention, parent involvement, and ultimately student achievement.”
