'Nampa IGNITE' Connects CTE Students With Real-World Experiences

For National Career and Technical Education Month (February), the Nampa School District teamed up with the City of Nampa and the Nampa Chamber of Commerce to launch a job shadow opportunity called “Nampa IGNITE.”

Nampa IGNITE provided an opportunity for 65 students within the Nampa School District to visit local businesses that align with their current CTE pathway.

While NSD offers 29 different CTE pathways, students were combined into 13 different areas. This three-hour real-world experience was made possible with support from Nampa businesses. We would like to thank the businesses listed below who will be hosting the students in their area of interest:

  • Agriculture: Valley Wide Cooperative / Valley Ag
  • Automotive Mechanic and Auto Body: City of Nampa Fleet Services
  • Business Management and Entrepreneurship: Idaho Small Business Development Center
  • Construction/Manufacturing/Welding: Interframe and Autovol
  • Cosmetology: Paul Mitchell
  • Culinary: Jalapeños Bar & Grill Nampa
  • Early Childhood Development: Harward Recreation Center Kids in Action
  • EMT/Paramedics: Nampa Fire District
  • Engineering: Jacobs & City of Nampa
  • Finance & Accounting: CapEd Credit Union and Ripley Doorn & Company
  • Graphic Design and Photography: Northwest Nazarene University
  • Health Professions: Terry Reilly and Saint Alphonsus
  • Law Enforcement: Nampa Police Department

“Our initial Nampa IGNITE was such a positive experience for our students and we are excited to see this become a tradition in our community,” said Cindy Arnzen, director of CTE for the Nampa School District. “The opportunity for students to interact with industry partners to see some of the real-life challenges and rewards of their chosen pathway is something we can’t provide in a classroom alone.”
