School Canceled Through March 29

Over the weekend, we worked to follow CDC guidelines that direct schools to delay closure until confirmation of community spread of the COVID-19 virus. Although there still is no evidence of community spread in our area, today President Trump  shared new guidelines for the nation that include recommendations to “school from home” wherever possible and to limit gatherings of people to 10 or less.

Given this new direction, we and our neighboring districts of Caldwell, Emmett, Kuna and Vallivue are choosing to cancel school for students effective tomorrow, March 17, through spring break.

We recognize that this is a hardship for families but believe it is the direction we must now pursue.

New developments as of March 16, 2020, include:

Sports and Activities: The IHSAA announced that they were extending cancelations of athletic and other activities through April 5. This includes cancellation of the State Cheer/Dance Championships, postponement of the State Debate Championship, and suspension of sanctioned sports and activities effective March 17-April 5. Athletic directors from throughout the state met today to work out a plan for what happens next. Nampa supports this IHSAA decision.

Technology: Parents of elementary students should have received a letter from their school communicating plans regarding how iPads will be sent home. If you have issues with your device while it is at home, you can receive help by contacting the Nampa School District Information Services Help Desk at (208) 468-4777 or [email protected].

Thank you for your support and patience as we work through this difficult situation.
