What we do
Nampa schools are home to one of the state’s largest student populations of non-English speakers. The state and federal government provide funding to assist districts in ensuring English Learner students gain English fluency and also master the same academic standards expected of all students. Funding is used for specially trained teachers and assistants, and for training and materials to assist in meeting the needs of EL students.
Our district provides a variety of approaches to support EL students as they learn English. The approaches depend on the school the child attends and his or her level of knowledge and skills. Some schools provide instruction in Spanish, some provide Spanish-language support, and others provide co-teaching/push-in support.
Our EL services are coordinated by Jill Ayabei, EL Coordinator/Coach, who can be reached at (208) 468-4601, ext. 1023, and Heidi Rahn, Federal Programs Administrator, who can be reached at (208)-468-4601, ext. 1064.
