As Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Gregg Russell acts as a liaison between educational programs and the superintendent and is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of curriculum and instruction. He also will provide support for district innovation around student instruction, work with district-approved charter schools, ensure compliance with Title IX education policies and assist in managing the Nampa Personalized Learning initiative.
 
Before taking this position, Dr. Russell was an assistant professor in the Northwest Nazarene University Doceō Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. In that capacity, he designed and implemented professional development for teachers and administrators around personalized learning and project management, and oversaw Nampa Personalized Learning. He co-created the HACK Model of Innovative Instruction and has published articles on technology implementation.
 
Prior to moving to NNU in 2014, he spent 12 years working for the Nampa School District as a teacher and administrator, most recently as principal of Ronald Reagan Elementary School. While at Reagan, he was named the Idaho Education Association Region 8 Outstanding Principal of the Year. Successes included raising student achievement scores, changing school culture, implementing Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and developing a tiered system of intervention for struggling students, among other accomplishments.
 
Dr. Russell holds a B.S. in elementary education from Boise State University, an M.Ed. in educational leadership from the University of Idaho, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership – Superintendent, and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership.  His research interest focused on principal leadership and change management in innovative learning environments.
