The Board of Trustees meets the second Tuesday of the month. Below is a summary of the most recent meeting which was Feb. 10, 2015.  


The Board of Trustees and Superintendent Peterson continued to discuss and revise new governance policies for the district.



The district’s PREP program was showcased by staff and students. The Prep Program, sometimes called Gator University, is a transitional program for students with developmental disabilities who are ages 18-21. The goal of the program is to prepare students for the transition from school to adult life. The PREP program is located at Nampa High School, building 250, room 276 and at The Dewey House on the campus of our partner Northwest Nazarene University.  Here’s a link to a video reviewing the program.  


  • School Board Election: Chairman Otten noted that the Zone 1 & Zone 2 positions on the Board are up for election in May. The deadline for candidates to file is 5 p.m., March 20. Note: Details on the process are online under Board of Trustees, 2015 Trustee Election Information. 

  • Day on the Hill with Idaho Legislature: Trustees Otten, Veloz, and Fuller plan to attend all or part of the event for school board members Feb. 16-17.


Superintendent Peterson reported or asked staff to report on t the following topics:

  • Monthly Meeting Start Time – Superintendent Peterson noted that the Board will need to continue workshops before the 7:30 p.m. regular meeting time so the trustees can finalize policies. A special meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 24.

  • Supplemental Levy Planning – The district’s current two-year supplemental levy will expire in June 2016. The Superintendent discussed with trustees that continuing a supplemental levy is necessary for the district and that planning should start. The trustees agreed. The Superintendent recommended pursuing a November 2015 election rather than a March 2016 date and he will report back to the Board.

  • Curriculum and Instruction Update – Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Nicole MacTavish updated the district on the progress of identifying a new K-5 English Language Arts Adoption.

    • Note:

      • The curriculum finalists are McGraw Hill Reading “Wonders” and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt “Journeys” – All staff are invited to review the materials and provide feedback.

      • Staff are invited to review the materials and provide feedback this week 3 to 5 p.m. today; 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 3 to 5 p.m., district office, 619 S. Canyon St.

      • Community and Parents are invited to review materials and provide feedback Wednesday, Feb. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m., 619 S. Canyon St.

  • Budget Status Report

  • Personnel Report – The administration provided written overview of changes to the paraprofessional salary schedule. 155 parapros will see pay improvements in their March paychecks.

  • Improved Bond Ratings – Superintendent Peterson reported that Standards & Poor’s significant upgraded the district’s bond rating reflecting the district’s continued financial improvement.

  • Strategic Planning Policy: The Board gave final approval of the Policy #1315.

  • Parent Involvement Policy: The Board approved for first reading of Revised Policy #1005. Changes are proposed in response to state review.


President Jaimee Hoesing thanked Superintendent David Peterson and Executive Director of Teaching and Learning Nicole MacTavish for meeting with its building representatives earlier in the day.


The board adjourned into executive session to discuss the superintendent’s evaluation.
